I Swapped My Monday Morning WIP For The Latest Longevity Craze… I’ve Never Worked Better

I swapped my morning meetings for a hyperbaric oxygen chamber in Surry Hills, and it completely changed how I think about wellness, work, and recovery.

  • Bionik Wellness blends science and luxury, offering world-leading treatments like Emsculpt NEO, Infrared Sauna, and Float Therapy.
  • Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy supercharges recovery by delivering high-pressure oxygen deep into muscles and brain tissue.
  • Perfect for high-performers with no time, Bionik turns recovery into a productive part of your workday.

For all the noise around remote work, hybrid work and whatever the next trend might be, I think we’re missing the point entirely. Flexibility isn’t just about working from Byron on a Tuesday or taking Zoom calls in tracksuit pants. Real flexibility is about having more time, and more control, to look after yourself. And for the first time in my adult life, I’m doing exactly that.

Recovery, But Make It High-Tech

I’ve worked full-time since I was 21. My routine’s been built around work deadlines and weekly meetings, and like most people, my fitness and recovery always came second. I was firmly in the “I’ve got no time” camp. No time to prioritise my fitness journey away from the office.

That all changed when I discovered Bionik Wellness, a slick, science-driven recovery studio tucked away in Surry Hills. Since then, I’ve taken a very different approach to how I start my days. Not in the office. Not even at my desk. These days, I kick off my morning WIPs in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. And I don’t want to sound dramatic, but it might have just changed my life.

Bionik isn’t your average wellness centre with a smoothie fridge and some Himalayan salt lamps. This is wellness with a user manual. Every treatment on offer, from Emsculpt NEO to Infrared Sauna, Float Therapy, and of course Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, is designed to support recovery, improve performance, and give Australia’s stressed-out professionals a fighting chance at staying healthy.

The space itself feels part luxury clinic, part science lab. You walk in and everything is clean, minimal, and cool, recessed into a sublevel base that offers exclusivity and world-leading treatments.

I was met by Jorge, the clinic’s resident healthcare professional and was quietly surprised to see him standing without his lab coat to greet you (in a good way). After a quick chat, I was in the chamber, taking calls, replying to emails and drafting the start of this review within seconds of arriving. The sessions are efficient, the staff know their stuff, and the protocols are flexible depending on what your body needs. You’re in, out, and left feeling sharper than when you walked in.

Inside The Oxygen Chamber

If you’ve never tried Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, the concept is simple: lie down in a sealed pod while pure oxygen is pumped in at increased pressure.

It’s used by elite athletes for recovery and tissue repair. Except, Bionik has invested in a state-of-the-art chamber that resembles an ejector pod from a sci-fi flick, complete with a comfortable chair, a pull-down desk and it’s own customisable lighting. The perfect hybrid working station to kick off the day.

The first time feels slightly surreal. The pressure builds gently in the opening minutes, pump and then you just… breathe. For 60 minutes. The experience is strangely calming, even meditative, but without the drift; it actually sharpens your focus.

It works by saturating your red blood with oxygen, where its absorbed deeper into your body’s tissues, muscles, and even areas of the brain that aren’t usually reached. This triggers a cascade of physiological benefits: reduced inflammation, improved immune response, faster recovery from physical strain, and enhanced cognitive performance.

There’s also mounting evidence that regular HBOT sessions may even support neuroplasticity and help combat age-related cognitive decline. Something I need to consider as I’m turning 30 and heading over the hill.

Biohacking Without The Bullsh*t

There’s a lot of fluff in the wellness world. But Bionik feels refreshingly free of it. Everything here is grounded in science and it’s tailored to your daily schedule. Whether you’re an F45 addict, a desk-bound exec, or someone who’s just had a big weekend, the team builds a plan around your goals. Be it body composition, performance, or just feeling human again.

Treatments like Emsculpt NEO, which uses electromagnetic pulses to burn fat and build muscle simultaneously, are surprisingly effective (and a godsend for those of us who can’t always squeeze in a second gym session). Infrared Sauna is fast-becoming another staple of my routine. And then there’s the Float Room: a zero-gravity tank of warm magnesium-rich water where your brain switches off entirely.

Why Bionik Wellness Is The Most Productive In Sydney

What Bionik nails is the intersection between performance and longevity. The team in Surry Hills has invested in results-driven treatments that work for both recovering athletes and stressed creatives; a tanigble blueprint for future-proofing your body. Which, in 2025, when it feels as though the entire world is becoming increasingly burnt out, is something inherently rare; a space to reset, backed by tools that actually work.

I don’t want to be the person limping into their 40s because I didn’t take recovery seriously in my 30s. And Bionik has helped me shift my thinking. I’m no longer trying to fit wellness into my daily slug. It’s now part of the work week, just like my weekly meetings, deadlines, and Friday beers. An opportunity to weave my fitness and recovery into my busy schedule and make meaningful progress. I might actually see this one through.
